Visit the charity's profileIn honour of the infamous Luciano Magalotti, Cotswold Canals Trust presents The Golden Duck Challenge. Many teams including 2019 winners LB Bennet will tackle the Charity Raft Race as it returns to the Thames and Severn Canal on Sunday 25th September 2022.
Getting the ball rolling this year is Harry and the Teams from The Clothiers Arms, Bowbridge Arms and Lock Keepers Café, generously sponsoring the event to ensure the community has as much fun as possible, Harry said
Luciano was an inspiration to me and hundreds of others in Stroud and beyond, he was all about the community and the canal. Our Pubs and café provide communities a place for rest, fun, celebration and shared moments we are delighted to remember Luciano by supporting the raft race this year and know that Luciano is still able to bring this community together!
All proceeds will support Cotswold Canals Trusts 50th Anniversary Year Golden Trow Appeal, and continue to support the Charity and its volunteers to restore and maintain the canal corridor.
Starting from Wallbridge Lock (outside the Cotswold Canals Trust Visitor Centre and opposite the Upper Lock Café) Rafts from local businesses, groups of friends and young peoples groups will leave the start line and race their way down towards Capels Mill.
New for 2022! the teams will then have to take on the challenge of securing the Golden Ducks, before making their return leg. The Race will be supported on the day by Stroud Canoe Club, who will also be taking part in water sports demonstrations throughout the day.
Between the racing there will be lots to do on Wallbridge Green with street food, the Cotswold Canals Trust pop-up book stall, Children's activities and much more.
Lisa Mant of Cotswold Canals Trust said: A special thanks to our Sponsor, Harry , for supporting this years raft race and allowing us to grow this fun-filled event. Financial support in this way makes a huge difference to the Charity and ensures every penny raised by the teams will go towards the restoration. Many thanks also to Newland Homes for allowing the boats to be launched from their canal side development site.
