Story
This year marks our 30th Anniversary of helping to Save Lives along the coast. Stephen Hand, NCI Chairman says:
“This year’s 30th anniversary is the ideal opportunity to put each station on the map and encourage even more people to join in and support us. The relay is about having some fun fun, raising awareness of the work we do, helping to save lives along the coast, and hopefully some vital funds as well'.
We love the coast and it’s a place where millions of people make happy memories every year. But it can also be a dangerous place that catches out the unwary and the unlucky, sometimes with life changing consequences. It’s why our 2,700-plus highly trained volunteers keep a daily visual and listening watch from our 60 stations for anyone in difficulty so HM Coastguard can send experts to the rescue.
In the last year, a record 840 incidents were recorded – including injured people on the coast path or stuck in mud on the shore, to paddleboarders and swimmers being pulled out to sea by the tide, vessels in jeopardy and even environmental hazards. We look out for vulnerable people and craft, whether that be swimmers, kayakers, fishing boats, yachts, ribs, anglers to name but a few.
It truly is work that helps to save lives – that could easily be you and your loved ones.
If you’d like to play a part in lifesaving, we’re appealing to everyone in this our 30th anniversary year, to do something special and help us to help save lives.
Why not make a small one off or regular donation, visit and support one of our stations or perhaps take up that personal challenge you’ve always promised yourself and raise funds through Just Giving. Make sure you tag us in your social media posts and we’ll spread the word and support you too!
