Story
Dear Santa,
On behalf of the hundreds of animals that we have helped in our Sanctuary this year, we are asking for something really really special. Something that doesn't need to come wrapped nicely with a bow, something that doesn't go in a stocking or fit under a tree, and something that cannot be measured. This special something makes happy tails wag and brings a deep and contented purr, it keeps tummies full of delicious and nutritious food, and ensures a safe warm place to sleep.
We are so fortunate to be able to spread this special something to animals who need us, and to have been able to do so for 30 years. So many of our cats and dogs will have never experienced Christmas, and for an unlucky few it is their second Christmas here with us, so we always make the day as special as we can for them. They are made a full scrummy Christmas dinner (complete with roasties of course!), shoeboxes from our wonderful supporters to unwrap, and are taken on festive walks before being tucked into bed by staff and volunteers who love them as if they were their own.
This year Santa, we managed to give a second chance to so many who required surgeries, but with so much going on here, we can't share all of their stories in depth, but hope you trust that we are always working hard on their behalf. Just to name two, there was Lottie, the little 11 year old Jack Russell who now can live out her last years without fear and pain, and Havana the bouncy kitten who needed an extensive operation on her eye to save it, but now will be able to jump from shelf to window ledge like the perfectly balanced gymnast she is!
We are determined to continue this vital work for many years to come, but can only do so with the kindness of our supporters. Our running costs continue to challenge us, at an average of £650,000 and we are approaching our coldest months, our kennels and cat pens last January cost us £60.11 a month to heat, but the comfort of our rescues is paramount.
So Santa, we are asking for your help spread awareness of Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary, and our intention to help the animals who need us now, and the animals who will need us in the future too. Could you please help us spread some kindness to those who cannot ask for it themselves?
Thank you, from all of us at Holly Hedge xx
