Story
“I’m writing to offer huge thanks for the Christmas gifts you organised to be sent to me and my fellow prisoners here. News Reports rarely have anything good to say about prisons in general and about prisoners in particular. It would be easy for us prisoners to feel isolated from society, despised and feared, and abandoned from any kind thought or care. It is very uplifting to receive a concrete example of how some people at least do care and can direct not only kind thoughts towards us but kind actions.”
Part of a letter received from a serving prisoner
Christmas is a very difficult time for people in prison: away from their families, staying in their cells for long hours, and the normal regime put on hold for the holidays. The unexpected gift of a bag of goodies from people they do not know, can really lift their spirits. These small acts of kindness remind people that they are not forgotten, that there are people who care about them and that there is a welcome for them when they are released.
The bags cost approx. £8 each, yet they are received as though they were made of gold.
Please help us by donating to this project, to bring a little joy and hope to prisoners at Christmas and beyond.
(Any donations received over and above the cost of the bags will go towards running costs and work of Sixty-One)
