Story

Donations are processed via KANALLAN’s partner UK-registered charity Indigo Children's Fund. Every single penny raised goes directly to the project with zero admin fees or overheads.

In 2022 KANALLAN began building Her Place, our Girls' Learning Centre, in Devchuli Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), to accommodate the growth of our Girls’ Empowerment Programme and create a permanent space for it to thrive.

Her Place is KANALLAN’s 40th project and we are delighted to see it near completion.

Having taken time to plan the next phase of the build, we are now entering the second stage of the project and work is progressing well. This involves the internal fit-out including plastering, electrics and plumbing.

We have already nearly £300,000 to complete the main structure, so we are now looking to secure £120,000 to install all the internal fixtures and fittings and open the building in Q3 of 2024. Once complete, Her Place will serve tens of thousands of vulnerable young Nepalese women for decades to come.

£500 will provide a girls' toilet or disabled access ramp

£1,000 will paint a classroom

£5,000 to sponsor and name a classroom

£10,000 to sponsor and name the main hall

£20,000 will provide flooring for nearly the whole building

£50,000 will complete the roof

KANALLAN’s Girls’ Empowerment Programme will operate from its permanent home at Her Place and will provide education, health and menstruation training, self-defence, legal services, counselling along with finance, entrepreneurship, careers and business coaching plus much more.

Her Place is a truly unique project that has only been made possible by your generous donations and the amazing achievements of these incredibly brave girls.

We would be incredibly grateful for any donation you make. Your contributions ultimately help transform the lives of underprivileged young Nepalese girls, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to empower the next generation of girls within their own local communities.

Girls’ Empowerment Programme

Our Girls’ Empowerment Program (GEP) was launched in rural Nepal in 2018 to help vulnerable girls escape marital slavery, trafficking and abuse along with focusing on education, counselling, vocational training and so much more.

Originally supporting 24 girls, the GEP has grown exponentially to directly provide just under 23,000 Nepalese girls with life-changing opportunities. Covering everything from healthcare to menstrual hygiene and self-defence to career opportunities, the GEP offers girls new beginnings at a formative stage of life.

The GEP has overcome entrenched cultural beliefs and stigma which often meant girls were forced to spend their monthly period shut away alone in animal huts. They would never speak up in public, let alone speak to a man. Fast forward to today and the GEP sees girls interviewing politicians on the program's weekly national TV show, winning international youth awards and achieving success in sport. Alongside this, the girls are carving out amazing careers all while becoming pillars of their communities.

Local communities across Nepal have embraced the GEP and now benefit from confident, empowered and happy young women ready to make a crucial difference locally and nationally. In 2022, with over 100,000 Nepalese households watching the GEP's weekly national TV show, KANALLAN launched the GEP nationwide across all seven Nepalese provinces.
