Story
Life in rural India is tough for children, but things are particularly hard for girls.
Over 200 million women in India live below the poverty line. In fact 46% of girls in India are undernourished. Families are so poor that marrying their daughters young feels like the only option. 75% of women in India are married underage. Some as young as thirteen.
A good education changes all of that. It opens up opportunities other than an early marriage and life of domestic servitude. But it also benefits the whole community for generations to come. Girls with an education marry later and have healthier children. In fact a child born to a mother who can read is 50% more likely to live beyond the age of five.
We are a small charity. We dont have a fundraising team or an advertising budget. We get no government support and have no major donors.
More Than a Basic Education
Today, we face one of our biggest challenges yet. We want to do more than offer our girls a basic education; we want to give them an education that will allow them to become engineers, doctors, scientists or anything else they can imagine.
To do that we need better facilities. We need science labs and computer suites, and that is expensive. That is why we are turning to you.
Can you help?
