Story
It's now Dec 2022 and, more than two years since we set this initiative up: the cost of living crisis has arrived - on top of what was already growing food poverty or a huge struggle for far too many neighbours to put healthy food on the table.
The 'Gift Your Neighbour' food initiative is by our community for our community. We want people struggling to make ends meet to know a very supportive community is around them.
Salusbury World has for twenty years been a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable people and families in the Queens Park area and across northwest London. Our 100+ volunteers and highly-trained small number of staff provide essential educational, social and practical support for refugees and their families.
We believe no-one should be feeling alone. or hungry and we have been providing non-perishable weekly food over the past two and a half years to over 220 people (65 households) in Queens Park, Brondesbury and Kensal Green.
We have set this food hub up with volunteers from residents associations such as QPARA, KTRA and APRATA, school PTAs such as Malorees, Ark Franklin, Salusbury and closely work with charities such as Laurence's Larder & Granville Community Kitchen, community organisations such as the Maqam, church groups, local businesses such as Cuore Italian Deli, Winkworth Estate Agents and William IV as well as neighbours from the mutual aid and Street Links network.
We have been able to invest over £26,000 of your money already over the past two years, combined with many thousands of food bags donations from schools and local residents some of whom arrange weekly collections.
We're also proud to say that for our food initiative 100% of any money donated to this page is spent on ensuring there is food for the parcels. £20, for example, buys fruit and veg for 40 families. No money from this initiative is retained by Salusbury World for other projects (so please also support those!).
Salusbury World receives no government funding so would welcome all offers of help, whether grant funding, personal donations of any size or sponsorship opportunities.
We will stay strong together, Thank you for reading x
