Story
Further to George’s original campaign, George is now at home and continuing to face challenges. He has had 3 further major surgeries to try to manage his disease and now has been told by doctors he will not regain the use of his legs permanently. He has taken all of this with determination and maturity, making the most of each day. He has won a National Title in Scottish Disability Swimming last month but with basic alterations to his home complete we now need to move to the next stage of the alterations.
George needs to have independent access to his home. This means installing a level entry door system to the front and rear of the house along with ramp access to the garden. This is for fire safety as well as the ability to be independent. He currently cannot access the rear of the house and said to a doctor last week that he hates people trying to lift him or help him as it scares him.
We have had one quote for the ramp access to the garden, rear entrance which is £7,500 which we are now seeking other quotes for. We have also had a quote to replace the current main entrance to a level entrance door so George can access the house on his own.
As he is growing fast, privacy and dignity is very important to him as is independence. He will need a new wheelchair as he continues to grow and as everyday wear and tear affect the current chair he uses.
George’s latest scans in December 2024 show the condition of his brain tumour shows change and with it more seizures so being as independent as he can be is really important to George. Any other funds will be used to manage the effects of George’s disease, such as specialist mobility equipment and treatment to make him comfortable and keep him as healthy as possible. Due to the unique nature of George’s condition it is unknown what further changes this disease has in store for George so we thank you wholeheartedly for any support you may give.
