Story

Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year. It unities families, allows people to spread love and inspires children to dream. We all have memories of waking up early on Christmas morning, and we all remember the excitement of looking under the tree to see what Santa brought for us. But what about those children in Glasgow currently living in poverty? Doesn’t everyone deserve a smile on Christmas morning?

This Christmas, Glasgow Care Foundation is asking for your support to put the magic into Christmas for those who are unable to do so themselves. Since 1874, we’ve been supporting Glasgow’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens and we want to make our 150th year our biggest yet, helping more people than ever before. Each year, we raise money over Christmas to provide supermarket vouchers to familie living in poverty to help with the cost of Christmas. This allows them to buy food for Christmas dinner, essential household goods or even a toy from Santa. We’re giving them the dignity of choice and offering a helping hand to put the magic into Christmas.

Given the current cost of living crisis, more people than ever before are struggling, which is why we’re committed to providing more help than ever. But we can not do it alone. Donate now to allow us to help put the magic back into Christmas. 100% of money raised goes straight to those in need, meaning even the smallest amount can make the biggest difference. We might be a small charity, but we’re doing big things for Glasgow and we need your help to do it!

RCN SC000906
We are one of Glasgow's oldest Charities, established in 1874 before the NHS and Welfare State, sadly our aim of alleviating poverty in the City is still the same. People are referred to us from agencies working with vulnerable people. We support some of the poorest individuals and families who cannot get help from any other source. We do not receive funding from any local or national government. The money we need to help those in need comes from capital investments made in earlier years, bequests, legacies, and donations. We often describe ourselves as the 'Small charity doing big things for Glasgow'. Our support is normally basic items such as cookers, washing machines, beds, furniture and flooring. Within one week we can be delivering items to a family that make an immediate impact on their personal situation. We also support families with supermarket vouchers to buy food as this is an ever-increasing plight for a lot of people. At Christmas we provide Vouchers and Gifts to those most in need for Christmas morning. There are 37,000 children living in poverty in Glasgow today. We also process around 15 community grants annually to benefit the wider community with projects, educational grants, transport, and other needs. If you or your company are looking for a Charity of the Year or doing some fundraising activities, we would appreciate you keeping us in mind as a potential beneficiary and we would welcome a conversation with you.
