The Lemon Tree Trusts mission is to inspire, support and collaborate with people who have been forcibly displaced to create community and opportunity through gardening.

At Lemon Tree Trust we believe gardening has the power to positively address issues of isolation and mental health. For people who have been forcibly displaced from their homes, the simple act of gardening produces beauty, restore dignity, creates community and offers opportunity.

Since 2015 the Lemon Tree Trust has supported survivors of war and communities of forcibly displaced people to create home and community gardens, garden competitions and education projects. Working with like-minded organizations and partners, we empower people from the ground up to improve their wellbeing and their environment, with a particular focus on women coming together as a community to affect change.

I couldnt believe my ears when I heard I could have a garden here. Weve all been displaced and are suddenly living in a desert without trees. I see life in this garden. It cleans the air and gives people hope. Ahmed Tamo, aged 60, Domiz camp, Kurdistan Region of Iraq

In 2018 alone we distributed 1,250 Crisis Response Garden Kits in Iraq and Syria; we ran garden competitions across 5 camps in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq attracting 1,000 entrants and we produced and distributed over 91,000 plants and trees to people in refugee and IDP camps. Looking ahead we are working with a number of well-established partners to bring our initiatives to communities in Jordan and Greece and will continue to expand our work in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

How can you help?

With your support we can bring gardens and gardening to every refugee community in the world. Every cake sale, community fundraiser, allotment collection, school fair donation helps us to buy more seeds, plants and tools. You can choose to raise funds for us in any way you like and we can provide leaflets and information to help you spread the word.

Gardening has given us a voice and a means to share our stories. Aveen Ibrahem, Lemon Tree Trust Community Outreach Manager, Domiz camp, Kurdistan Region of Iraq

How will your generosity help people?

Seeds are easy to source and cost very little to provide and because the Lemon Tree Trusts core running costs are fully funded, 100% of your donation will be spent in refugee communities making a real and lasting difference to peoples lives.

£50 can give 10 families a package of seasonal flower and vegetable seeds

£100 can give 5 families a lemon tree providing shade and fruit

£250 could fund 25 Garden Starter Kits for new families arriving in camp

£500 could provide 10 schools with a Childrens Garden Starter Kit for classrooms
