Story

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and CIDP are autoimmune conditions that can come on very suddenly, often causing temporary or long-term paralysis, so to mark GBS/CIDP awareness month this May, we want you to challenge yourself to get moving.

From 1st to 31st May, set yourself a goal to increase the amount of exercise you do. Count your steps, track your distance or keep a note of how many minutes you're active, whether you're walking, running, rowing, cycling, swimming or rolling (for people reliant on wheelchairs and mobility scooters). Keep your goals challenging but realistic to avoid getting bored or disheartened, but what you do and how you do it is entirely up to you.

Because May is GBS/CIDP awareness month, why not use the campaign to raise awareness and funds to help people who have been affected by these conditions? Share the JustGiving fundraising page link and spread the word across social media platforms, using the hashtag, #GAINmomentum. You could even get friends and family to join in and set yourselves a group challenge such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro one flight of stairs at a time.*

Whatever your personal challenge is, make sure you celebrate every milestone and every little victory, and above all, have fun!

To register for your own #GAINmomentum challenge, visit www.gaincharity.org.uk

*If you fancy taking on Mount Kilimanjaro, you'll need to collectively climb 2,975 flights of stairs to reach the top (based on 13 stairs in a flight). This works out at 96 flights per day, or just under 10 flights per person per day for a group of 10 people.
