Story
In 2010 the club was on the brink of closing, with less than 10 people attending the single weekly session. Since then we have come so far, thanks to the support of our funders, volunteers and fantastic team of youth workers.
The club is full to bursting on a Friday night with young people having a great time with their friends. We run a music group to give young people the chance to try a new instrument, learning how to sing, play and even perform. We run a heavily subsidised Duke of Edinburgh scheme where young people can learn new things, broaden their horizons and build their CVs. This year we have even seen our first group achieve their gold awards, complete with visits to the Palace! We run a monthly teenage market where young people can build their entrepeneurial skills. We run a boys group and a girls group, where young people can build self esteem, developing healthy habits, lifestyles and relationships. We run a summer programme because we know not everyone gets to go away. There's always hot food and a friendly face available at youth club.
We are so proud of all that we've achieved, especially against the backdrop of cuts to youth services across the country, with many clubs closing down. We're very lucky to have a purpose built building on our doorstep, along with experienced staff to deliver activities and lots of enthusiastic young people to fill it! To continue all this amazing work we need to raise around £500 a week and we rely on the support of the local community to help make it happen. As well as keeping the doors open, this money helps to keep the costs of coming to youth club low so that all local young people can attend, regardless of background.
Any donations you can spare would be very much appreciated, to help us help more young people try new things and lead fulfilling lives.
