"Our sweet Frodi died at home on the 31st of October 2022, just a few weeks before his 10th birthday. He left a huge hole in our hearts".

In May 2021 Frodi noticed a little bump under his knee, we didn’t think it was serious at the time but he was soon diagnosed with osteosarcoma. We were sent to Glasgow for treatment, far away from our family and home. He had no metastasis on diagnosis but his tumour kept growing fast through his chemotherapy treatment, so the planned rotationplasty amputation was brought forward.
In October Frodi had a collapsed lung and by December his lung collapsed again, he had a CT scan which revealed many little tumours in his lungs. He was given a different chemotherapy treatment for 2 months, but the lung tumours kept growing. In February we came back home and he started taking a cancer growth blocker which kept his tumours stable for a while. After a few months this treatment stopped working.
Frodi's mum
Frodi was a kind and laid back boy who loved animals, nature and fantasy. Growing up we had lots of adventures as a family, exploring Scotland and many places in Europe.
During treatment we spent most of our time reading books and comics together, playing board and card games and watching marvel movies, and when allowed out of the hospital we explored Glasgow, visiting parks and museums.
It was very hard to be away from our family for 8 months, and very hard for Frodi’s older sister not to be with us. The hospital environment was difficult for Frodi, he just wanted to get out and wanted to get home.
He adjusted well to his rotationplasty but due to the continuing medication and cancer progression he never really got to the point where he learned to use his prosthetic leg properly and his mobility deteriorated as his lungs got worse.
Throughout treatment Frodi had many horrible times but remarkably always bounced back quickly to his cheerful and funny self. He often thought about other people, he wished he could help the other kids in the cancer ward and we took turns in cheering each other up as needed throughout the numerous challenges we faced.
He left a huge hole in our hearts.
Going through bone cancer treatment and losing a loved one to it is truly an unimaginable journey. The treatment is so harsh in so many ways.
We are very grateful for the excellent medical care Frodi received, but really hope that through Frodi's Phoenix Fund, we can help make sure that through research, more effective treatments can be made possible in the future.
