Story
The Athletic Bands program at FPU is made up of student musicians of all levels of musical experience, from seasoned marching band veterans to completely new, first-time musicians. Students in Athletic Bands perform on different instruments at different events:
The Raven Marching Band performs at all home football games, as well as at other events on and off campus. The RMB also serves as a musical ambassador for Franklin Pierce University, traveling to perform at the Salem High School and Dover High School Marching Band Invitationals, and performing on-campus for The NH Executive Council and Governor Chris Sununu.
The Raven Drum Line performs at a handful of home soccer games in the fall for both the men’s and women’s teams. There are extra drums available for other musicians to play, so if you’re a wind player in the Athletic Bands and you want to hit some drums, this is your opportunity!
The Raven Pep Band performs at multiple men’s and women’s hockey and basketball games in the winter, cheering on our teams and adding a little extra excitement to the gameday atmosphere. The Pep Band plays most of the same music as the Marching Band but with the addition of electric bass, guitar, keys, and drum set.
The Raven Rhythm Section is a small and select group of musicians that play the “rhythm” instruments in the Pep Band: keys, guitar, bass, drum set, and percussion. They provide the heartbeat of the Pep Band and also represent both the FPU Athletic Bands program & the FPU Music Department at various performances on and off campus. Students in the Raven Rhythm Section are often music majors who gain professional experience playing a variety of musical styles.
