Story

Our SOS

We are Four Pillars, an LGBT+ charity based in the Grampian community. We provide vital support and care to over 3,000 individuals annually who are seeking safe space and assistance in their journey toward self-acceptance and well-being. However, we are facing an imminent threat of projected closure due to the loss of crucial funding amounting to over £150,000.

We have named this initiative "SOS" for Save Our Services, as it encapsulates the urgency and importance of our plea for assistance. With a shortfall of £150,000, we can’t ensure the continuity of our life-saving programs and sustain our efforts to promote mental health, education, sexual health, and advocacy for human rights within the queer community.

The services we provide have proven to be instrumental in minimising suicide attempts, addressing mental health challenges, and creating a safe haven for individuals in need. Our organisation stands as a beacon of hope, particularly during these challenging times when the rights and well-being of LGBT+ individuals are increasingly under threat.

We at Four Pillars have experienced a remarkable surge in demand for our services, with an average of 300 individuals seeking support and guidance through our doors monthly. Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to expand our offerings, extending hours, facilitating support groups, and providing a new meeting space. However, this increased demand has strained our current facilities, necessitating the acquisition of additional space for offices and meeting rooms.

This is where we need your help. By generously donating or offering sponsorships for our staff salaries, you can contribute to the sustainability and growth of Four Pillars. Your support will enable us to keep and ensure the security of the additional space and required services to meet the rising demand and provide an even more inclusive, supportive, and life-saving environment for the LGBT+ community and their allies.

Four Pillars is not merely a charity but a lifeline for many individuals who have long struggled to find acceptance and support. Our organisation has a proven track record of challenging societal norms, pushing boundaries, and empowering communities. We continue to organise Grampian Pride, an event that this year attracted almost 10 000 participants, demonstrating our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and celebration within the LGBT+ community.

Our CEO, Deejay Bullock, founded Four Pillars from humble beginnings and has poured their heart, soul, and every resource available into its establishment and growth. Deejay's unwavering dedication and resilience have transformed Four Pillars into the lifeline it is today. The potential closure of our charity would not only signify the loss of an invaluable resource but also the loss of hope for those who feel marginalized and voiceless.

Deejay shared his deepest sentiments regarding the potential closure of Four Pillars, stating, "Four Pillars is my baby, my purpose, my life. I have dedicated seven years of my life, blood, sweat, and tears to building this incredible charity. It stands as a testament to the fact that our community deserves better—proper education, genuine support, and meaningful connections. Failure is not an option for me, but without the necessary assistance, it may become a harsh reality."

The weight of this potential failure extends far beyond Deejay's personal journey. It impacts the thousands of individuals who rely on Four Pillars' services, especially the younger generation who seek care, guidance, and hope for a better future. It would be devastating to witness the dismantling of everything we have worked so hard to build—brick by brick, person by person, life by life.

Today, We humbly reach out to you with a plea, a cry for help, and our SOS. We implore you to stand up and make a tangible difference in the lives of those who are unable to do so themselves. Your generous support will not only save a vital LGBT+ charity but also serve as a beacon of hope for those who desperately need care, love, and acceptance.

Please consider making a donation or sponsoring staff salaries to ensure the continuation of Four Pillars' life-saving services. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of thousands and pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for considering our urgent request for assistance. Your support means the world to us and to the entire LGBT+ community we serve.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Four Pillars team.
