Story
Every year we have more applications for our rural girls secondary school scholarship scheme than we can currently provide for.
One of our team described it as like a light going out in their eyes once they realise post primary is not affordable to their family. There is only one high school in a region the same size as Gloucestershire. For girls living in remote rural villages with no transport options or money to pay for rent to live near the school finishing primary is as far as they get.
Thankfully since 2011 we have been able to provide the Underhill Scholarship for remote rural girls to attend high school. In 2014 the village elders gave us land to build a purpose built education centre (Toby's House) for rural girls which opened in 2015. An extension building (Prudence House) is currently being constructed. Once completed we should be able to double the number of girls we can support.
Previous recipients of the scholarship have gone on to university, technical college and started their own business. Can you help us continue to provide this vital service to the girls we partner with?
