Story

Help us continue to grow and preserve the FIT Library Special Collections & College Archives for future generations.

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)’s Gladys Marcus Library's Unit of Special Collections and College Archives (SPARC) holds hundreds of thousands of rare and fragile items. These important archives are carefully stored, organized, and described in detail to ensure they will stand the test of time and are easily accessible to researchers.

The FIT Library Special Collections is a multimedia resource-rich study center for the fashion and creative industries, fashion historians, and associated researchers, including students from FIT's graduate and undergraduate programs related to fashion and design.

The collection is housed in a state-of-the-art, environmentally controlled storage facility and contains more than 12,000 volumes of rare and globally important books, circa 700 sought-after periodicals titles on fashion and beyond, and more than 400 unique oral history interviews.

The ever-growing holdings of over 507 manuscript collections include more than 500,000 works of art on paper dating from the 1590s through today; fashion firms and designers are primarily represented.

Your gift today will ensure that FIT can continue to grow and preserve this archive of fashion history.
