Story
Atlantic Pacific is a charity with a very simple ambition: to end global drowning. As one of the planets biggest killers, predominantly taking place in developing countries and under resourced communities, drowning is a cause of death that nobody deserves.
Our work is focussed on the development of tools, like our Lifeboat in a Box (LIB), that can be provided to communities to establish their own means of rescue, as well as the training of Search & Rescue operatives.
Atlantic Pacific is honoured to be the charitable partner of Final Descents, Episode 1: 100km in 24 hours. This punishing event will see participants push themselves to their limit to descend 100km in 24 hours to raise funds for a lifesaving asset. This is the first in a vanguard expedition series that brings like minded people together through a love for adventure, life experience, fitness and nature to make a difference to the world we live in by raising funds for important causes.
Funds from Final Descents will be used for two things. The first is to deliver emergency aid to the Polish/Ukrainian border following the invasion of Ukraine. As millions of refugees escape over the polish border, there is a need for emergency casualty care to provide assistance to those who are physically injured. AP has a world-leading Casualty Care course, based on a check card system. AP will deliver this training to local Polish and Ukrainian NGOs and civilians who are helping refugees from Ukraine as well as provide them with the medical kit required to administer the care. Training front line staff will enable them to help the millions of people (of predominantly women and children) who have already crossed the border, and the millions more that will come in the following months. This training will save hundreds of lives.
The second is to develop our next generation of rigid-hulled inflatable boat (Hahn Evolution) to be the best in-shore rescue boat. This will be used for deployment in developing countries as part of APs Lifeboat in a Box programme. As well as a new rescue asset, AP is looking into ways at constructing our boats from recycled plastic, to make reproduction of these boats cheap and achievable for our partners located in countries which lack funds and resource.
Below is a picture of our first boat, Hahn 001, which is located in the north of Japan, where the 2011 Great Eastern Earthquake and Tsunami struck, killing over 15,000 people. Our latest boat is the third iteration of Hahn 001, which has been developed and perfected by learning and testing our current boat designs.
