Story
East Keswick is a charming village located just a 10-minute drive from Leeds. It is an award-winning conservation area village surrounded by stunning countryside and numerous attractive walks. The village has a welcoming and friendly community, and one of its most significant assets is its Village Hall.
After 75 years of existence, the Village Hall Trustees recently seized a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bid for a piece of land adjacent to the Village Hall’s Garden (see photo). We believe that purchasing the Illingworth Field will contribute to the long-term sustainability of this vital community asset. It will help to protect the field from being sold for unsuitable development purposes and will help us to protect the idyllic view at the rear of the hall to the open fields and unique landscape.
East Keswick Village Hall is a valuable community asset used for various activities, including recreation, sports, and events. We believe that owning the field will allow us to ensure that the Village Hall is available for the enjoyment of future generations.
The Trustees are also committed to enhancing biodiversity in the village. As part of our efforts, we have partnered with the East Keswick Wildlife Trust. Together, we plan to turn part of the Illingworth Field into an open orchard and community garden that everyone can enjoy.
The Trustees are currently fundraising to purchase the Illingworth Field. They are asking for donations to help make this project a reality. If you want to learn more, please visit the Village Hall website: https://www.eastkeswickvillagehall.org/
