Story

Please spare a thought for the Elephant victims of Covid-19.

Elephants are among the hardest-hit animals in the current pandemic. And, as you may have seen in news reports around the World, Elephants in Thailand are facing the bleakest of futures with starvation a very real threat:

* Coronavirus: Thai elephants face starvation as tourism collapses (BBC News 31 March 2020)

* Elephants in Thailand could die of starvation as coronavirus quashes tourism (New York Daily News 31 March 2020)

*Elephants in Thailand face starvation as coronavirus severely impacts tourism (Fox News 1 April 2020)

*Hungry and in chains, Thailand's tourist elephants face crisis (Yahoo 1 April 2020)

Domesticated Elephants in Thailand rely entirely on income from tourists. Since Thailand went into lock-down at the end of March, tourism has all but ended and it could be many months before visitors begin to return. With tourist parks and camps closed, Elephant owners now have no income to feed their animals. Malnourishment and starvation are a huge threat to these wonderful animals. But you can help.

It costs at least £12 (13.60 Euros, $14.70) per day just to feed one Elephant.

That's £84 (95.30 Euros; $103) per week.

That's £360 (408 Euros, $441) per month.

Southern Thailand Elephant Foundation employs no staff. We are an entirely volunteer-run charity. Every donation we receive will be used to help feed Elephants in need, on the ground in Southern Thailand. We have volunteers in the region ready to ensure that Elephant feed is distributed to those who genuinely need it.

Please spare what you can to provide essential food for the starving Elephants of Southern Thailand.

Thank you
