Story
This winter is likely to be one of the hardest for families in our area.
Food Banks are at the heart of supporting families.
The number of people they are supporting has increased by about 50% this year at a time when donations have reduced by about 50%.
Currently there is approximately 250 families being helped each week in the Havant area. The majority have been referred by schools, doctors, health services, local councils etc. The average time people need help is for about 6 weeks.
The cost of living crisis, higher energy costs and increased fuel costs as well as higher rents and mortgages is going to push even more families to the limit.
Food Banks, help families with the gift of food parcels that cover the basic needsthat will help them overcome short term shortfall. They also help families by sign posting towards other help, such as benefits they can claim.
The Trussel Trust recently launched their first ever crisis appeal. stating" We are seeing a level of fear in people that we havent seen before. In that literally don't know what they are going to do to try and pay the bills and feed their families".
Feed Havant is our appeal to help the Food Banks that are based in the Havant Borough. We aim to increase awareness of where the food banks are if you need help and aim to increase donations of food and money that can be used to purchase the basic items to keep families fed.
Havant Rotary has donated £3,000 to the food banks in our area from charity donations made to the club. Quite simply we see helping the food banks as the most important thing we can do to help right now.
If we can encourage a large number of people to make a small donation of food, or a small cash donation we can make a huge difference. Monies raised will be distributed directly to the Food Banks to help feed families in our area.
