January Feed and Equipment Repair Appeal 2022.

Having taken in a number of additional rescues in 2021, we have already gone through our entire Winter stock of feed. We recently had our much needed tractor break down, as well as our horse lorry, with repair costs of thousands of pounds.

Story

As many of you may know, we have had a number of set backs recently, including the loss of our much-needed tractor. We use the tractor every single day to move haylage, hay and other items around the sanctuary. With over 70 horses, as well as sheep, cows, cats, dogs and one hungry Alpaca to feed, we have to buy incredibly large stocks of hay & haylage and we are unable to move it by hand.

On top of this, we currently have a £3,000 repair bill for our horse lorry, which we also use on a daily basis to move our horses and ponies from field to field. Along with mounting vet's bills, we are once again facing an up-hill battle.

We are looking to raise the necessary funds to find a reliable, second-hand tractor as a matter of urgency. We are also in need of raising the funds required to buy in the necessary stocks of hard feed, haylage and straw, having already gone through our entire Winter stock. After taking in a number of additional rescues over the course of 2021, we have found that our feed bill has increased dramatically and we did not anticipate that we'd need to re-stock feed so soon.

Currently our bill for hard feed is £500 per week & £1,500 per week for haylage and straw.

Due to the additional rescues we took in last year, we've also taken on more staff to help with the work here at the sanctuary. These increased staff costs, along with weekly feed bills exceeding £2,000 per week mean we are once again looking to our loyal supporters for their help!

As a self-funded sanctuary, we are entirely reliant on the kindness and generosity of our loyal supporters. We are always looking into different ways we can raise the funds needed in order to continue to provide a safe-haven for animals in need.

One of the most effective methods of fundraising is via our campaigns on JustGiving. Anything you are able to contribute makes such a difference to the animals in our care. Even £1 makes a difference! Sharing our JustGiving page is also a free, quick and easy way of helping us to spread the word about the work we do here at Woodfield, which is vital to our survival as a sanctuary.

Suffering the loss and damage of much needed equipment here at the sanctuary is not how we'd hoped to start the new year, but we are hoping to overcome these challenges with your help!

Please help us to continue this work and to allow us to provide the happy, healthy home these beautiful animals deserve.

(Our story )

We are currently home to over 70 rescued horses and ponies who often come to us from appalling conditions of neglect and abandonment. We are their last chance and hope of survival. We are also home to many sheep, cows, cats, dogs and one friendly Alpaca! It is always a privilege to give these beautiful animals the love and care they deserve. It is a real joy to see how they heal and learn to enjoy their lives in peace and security.

We are on a site of some 20 acres and every year we rent additional grazing from local farmers .

Whereas we were just a husband and wife team looking after a few rescue animals when we came to Gower in 2013, we now employ 3 part-time staff to help us with all the rescues we have taken in. We are also very grateful to our dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers and supporters who help us in so many ways.

We became a registered charity in Dec 2020 (No 1192645)

About the charity

In 2013 we moved to Gower to retire but after seeing so many abandoned and emaciated ponies we turned our home into a Sanctuary for them as a “save haven” to be cared for and rehabilitated. We have rescued over 300 animals, only accomplishing this with the generosity of our wonderful supporters.
