Why we walk!

Welcome to Family and Community Resources, Inc.s (Brockton, MA) 2022 Walk for Survivor Safety.

Each year in October, to honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, FCR Board members, staff, family, friends and other community members gather together to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence.

What is domestic violence? Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviors and tactics used by one person over another to gain power and control. Abuse may be verbal, financial, emotional, sexual and/or physical. Domestic violence crosses all sociological populations including race, gender, class, and sexuality. Many victims of DV do not seek help for reasons including fear of retaliation from their abusers, lack of faith in the justice system, social stigma and the risk of police intervention among vulnerable groups, such as undocumented immigrants. 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime and that is just one set of statistics, so just think about that for a minute. What it is telling you is that most likely you know someone who has experienced domestic violence. Which makes the work of FCR ever more essential.

For over 50 years, FCR has provided life affirming and life saving services to the over 2000 women, children and men who come to us for help each year. Our mission is to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all survivors of trauma, including those impacted by domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, bereavement, and other causes. With the understanding that the aim of equality and justice is ongoing, we are committed to modeling diversity, inclusivity, and equity within our organization to reflect the communities in which we serve.
