Story
A few days ago, our volunteers saw a video of farmers sitting in Chardi Kla (rising spirits) under a leaking tarpaulin roof at the Singhu border protest site. Our volunteers have sprung into action and are helping to build a new tin roof for the protesting farmers to replace the damaged and leaking tarpaulin roof that has served them for the last 9 months through winter, storms and the Indian summer heat.
More such tarp roofs will need replacing as rains continue and winter arrives in a few months for which more winter wear, sleeping bags and blankets will be needed for the sub zero temperatures.
Last winter we distributed 600 tarpaulins donated by the sangat of the Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara, Sunderland, UK. so the farmers may sleep in dry trolleys. We also distributed 2000 thermal undergarments donated by the sangat of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Hitchin, UK.
We have also identified the following needs:
1. One group of farmers are using wood fire for cooking, which should be replaced with a gas facility.
2. More toilets to be built and their upkeep is needed
