Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Did you know that although the UK has one of the most advanced health systems, we have one of the highest child mortality rates in Western Europe? That over 2000 babies a year die in the first 4 weeks of their life, that 3500 are stillborn? Or that 6,000 children and young people die in the UK each year?

Death has a huge, lasting and deeply profound effect on the parents and families of these children - we know that it leaves parents numb, shattered, heartbroken and reeling from the loss.

With the Children of Jannah Family Support Toolkit, bereaved families can feel the comfort of faith-based grief recovery whenever they need it.

We aim to gift 100 bereaved families a Children of Jannah Family Support Toolkit to help them cope, heal and find peace after the devastation of their child's death. Each Family Support Toolkit comprises 3 Specialist Support Calls, a Gift Of Hope Bereavement Support Pack and a Return To Him book.

1. Three Specialist Support Calls

Questions usually start with the practical - what and how should I tell my other children, my family, friends, neighbours? What should I do for a child's funeral?

It is important to families to have good clear information on these issues, but that is the easy part. They rapidly turn to the spiritual. Did Allah allow this to happen to our child? To us? To me? Could I have prevented it? Did I do something wrong? Will it happen again? Will I ever feel peace, happiness? Is there really hope when I feel so lonely?

When something this profound happens, each parent follows their own pathway through grief. The good news is that Islam is rich with excellent guidance and solace for the bereaved, though often mixed with traditions around grieving that can be rigid and unhelpful.

I didn't know what to expect from the Support Call, I didn't even know what I was going to say, I just saw the number and rang. For weeks I have been feeling lost and as if I am carrying the weight of the world, but I can truly say I feel lighter, my heart feels lighter and I now feel like I have somewhere I can turn when I need to talk.

Our role is to help parents and families to find through their way through the confusion and darkness and back to the wisdom, strength and peace of Islam.

We have established a Specialist Support Call service, provided by volunteers, all trained to deal appropriately with calls from parents whose children have died. Volunteers are trained to listen calmly, sympathetically and actively, taking down the information needed to help and to offer, and know where to find appropriate information if necessary.

All calls relating to the death of a baby or child are difficult, and some are very traumatic or resonant for the volunteer, no matter how well trained they are. We provide regular peer-to-peer supervision sessions to protect volunteers from dwelling on traumatic calls and enable them to carry on their amazing work.

Each Specialist Support Call lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.

It is a unique opportunity for parents to share their story confidentially, without judgement of their deeper struggles, and to be supported by a highly trained Child Bereavement Support Specialist. Its also an opportunity for parents to get clarity on their biggest challenges and how to try and work through them before the follow-up calls.

***What Are The Benefits Of A Children of Jannah Specialist Support Call?***

>> The bereaved parent has the chance to speak his/her mind in a safe, confidential environment without judgement.

>> Support Specialists get a chance to assess the parent and advise on ways to help cope with and overcome the day-to-day struggles faced by the bereaved parents.

>> Support Specialists addresses myths of grief with the bereaved parent, while validating his/her feelings of grief and loss.

>> The bereaved parents are signposted to resources and also connected with a community of other bereaved parents to provide continuous support.

2. Gift Of Hope Pack

A Gift of Hope pack is Children of Jannah's flagship product. It provides the benefit of not only addressing the subject of child loss and grief but also providing evidence and teachings from the Quran and Sunnah thereby providing the personal, spiritual and faith-based support which is so important to so many.

With exclusive content and resources, reminders and the opportunity to write down feelings, the Gift of Hope pack is unique, precious and vital to so many who are experiencing the turmoil of grief alone.

"The Children of Jannah Gift Of Hope Pack has helped me to come to terms with the loss of my son. It's exactly the comfort any grieving parent needs and, what's even better, it's backed up with the Qur'an & Hadith. Everyone deals differently with death and so the Pack can be opened as and when the time is right for you. The literature provided says everything family or friends want to say at times like these, and can be re-read whenever the need arises.

A Gift Of Hope Packs contain many great features:

>> Sorrow To Serenity: 12 Ways To Help A Parent Find Peace Through The Pain Of Child Loss

>> Solace: A Little Book of Reminders For Grief Relief

>> Where Is My Child?

>> Grief, Loss & Mourning

>> You're Not Alone

>> Journal & Pen

>> Du'a Reminder Card

***What Are The Benefits Of A Children of Jannah Gift of Hope Pack?***

A Gift Of Hope Pack makes the life of bereaved families easier by:

>> Providing support that reflects the Muslim faith. When it comes to grief, finding understanding is so important not just understanding of the emotions of grief but understanding that takes account of the personal beliefs, culture and religion of the bereaved families which are so integral to the way in which they live their lives and understand the death of their child.

>> Providing a resource to turn to at any time. The beauty of these packs is that they can be kept and turned to at any time, day or night, in the days and weeks following the loss of a child, or years later. Grief has no watch or calendar the advice and information provided inside the Gift Of Hope Packs is not only priceless but also timeless, as a constant source of comfort.

>> Answering questions bereaved families may have. With loss and grief comes shock, confusion, anger and the task of continuing life without a much-loved or much-longed child. All of these are questions to which the answers are vital for bereaved families: Why did our child die? Why did this happen to us? Where are they now? How can we go on?

>> Explaining emotions that may be experienced in grief. Grief is a real storm of emotions that strikes with full force and whilst it is entirely human and inevitable, it is a real mix. From distress to anger, from outward expression to inward withdrawal, the Gift Of Hope Packs will recognise those emotions and help explain why bereaved parents are experiencing them, thereby providing understanding and the opportunity to begin to work through each feeling.

>> Giving parents a way to turn to their faith for comfort. Expression of grief is so important and with the Gift Of Hope Packs, bereaved parents will have the opportunity to write down emotions in a way which will provide a private, personal therapeutic expression thereby relieving some of the burden of grief.

Journeying through the box helped me move on and accept that death is a part of life that we all must face at some point in our lives; it offered me the light of the Qur'an & Sunnah, and undoubtedly, I would recommend this to anyone who has suffered child loss. It has everything you need, and more mashAllah, and it is an initiative worthy of our support.

3. Return To Him

Return To Him visits the names of Allah in glory, reflecting upon His attributes from a perspective of grief recovery and providing comfort and peace.

Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. [Quran, 13:28]

When a baby or child dies, the sense of loss and pain can be so great that a parent despairs of everything. It can, and often does cause parents to doubt the one thing that they need more than ever before - their faith and relationship with Allah.

That is why we researched and wrote Return To Him, which is written to help those suffering great hardship to establish a renewed relationship with Allah, because that is the thing that will help them above all.
