Focusing on families and providing support for parents of premature and sick babies.
Having a baby on a neonatal unit is a very unpredictable and daunting experience for parents. They would have imagined their first moments with their new baby being filled with happiness - being in a neonatal unit often takes those moments away.
Our appeal aims to raise £60,000 to help us support the 1,000 families of premature or sick babies that we support on our units each year.
Our aim is to make sure family members are involved from the very start in the daily care and routine of their baby. Involving parents as much as possible in the care of their babies can have a positive impact on both the babys and parents health and wellbeing.
Our core areas of funding will include:
Breakfast mornings with NICU staff and parents
Travel costs (weekly travel cards)
Providing daily cereal, lunches, milk, teas and coffees covering both sites
Creating a welcome pack for families
Creating information packs for families
Cooler bags for expressed milk
Arts and crafts sessions for parents colouring books
Purchasing the use of equipment such as mini-boos to help connect families and their baby
There are so many ways you can get involved with our Family Support Fund; whether you host a Family Fund Coffee morning, take part in a challenge event, or make a donation, every contribution will go towards helping families. Every donation whether it's £3 or £300 makes a difference.
If you are a parent or supporter that wishes to donate a large amount to helps us care for preemie families, please get in touch with The Winnicott Foundation team directly, who can advise on gifting the key elements that need funding.
With your help we can continue to support premature and critically ill babies and their families at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington & Queen Charlotte's Hospital in Hammersmith.
