Story
Youth Outside now has a new name and identity as Justice Outside! This name centers our ultimate mission: advancing racial justice and equity in the outdoor and environmental movement. With racial justice as our north star, we can make an even bigger impact to transform the outdoor and environmental movement. Please note that while this Just Giving/Blackbaud site does not yet display our new name in every instance, we are now Justice Outside, and our name change is otherwise complete across all our digital spaces.
We Are Justice Outside
We believe in the magic that happens when people of all ages enjoy, explore, or find meaningful work in the outdoors. From healing to exploration, from community-building to self discovery, we know that the environment around us has a life-altering power. And we are working hard to protect this connection to ensure that everyone has access to it.
We invite you to join Justice Outside in growing our community by donating or fundraising with us for Explore-A-Thon 2021.
Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color have a rich history of connection to the outdoors. All over the country, Communities of Color are fostering creativity, and connection with the land, air, water, and nature around us. Indigenous communities shaped how we protect our land and homes from wildfires. Black communities have led the movement for greater green spaces in cities and developed soil preservation methods core to modern agriculture. Latinx people led the way in banning harmful chemicals like DDT and advocated for greater protection of public lands. The Aztecs of Mesoamerica have practiced sustainability before that term even existed. Communities of Color have made historical contributions to conservation which are undeniable.
We envision a movement that uplifts all communities and cultures while valuing the interconnectedness of all people and the planet to create a healthier world. Justice Outside works to promote racial justice within the outdoor and environmental movement. Our systems-change approach includes grantmaking, anti-racism training, career pathway development, and capacity-building. We center the voices and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and work to ensure a future where the healing benefits of nature are equally accessible to all.
We are an experienced team with deep roots in the work. We are a team of advocates and organizers and, as an organization, weve been engaged in the work of organizational training, career pathway development, and grantmaking and capacity building for nearly a decade. We are a Black-led, woman-led organization with an extremely diverse staff. The diversity of our experiences and years of equity-driven work grant us the ability to devise creative and collaborative approaches, informed by deep knowledge of our field and meaningful connections with folks doing work on the ground.
Explore-A-Thon: Help Us Grow Justice Outside
Now, it is more critical than ever to keep building supports within the outdoor and environmental movement to advance racial justice and equity. When you help us grow our community, you help us shift resources to, build power with, and center the voices and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color because the health of current and future generations demands it.
We are grateful for the support of our Explore-A-Thon sponsors:
