Most Augusts, Everybody Wins! friends & community join the Race to the Top of Vermont to keep children reading with their mentors, no matter what.
This year, we are rebuilding after the worst flood in Montpelier history.
Children who love to read do better academically, stay in school longer, and have a better chance at a good life when they grow up.
Everybody Wins! Vermont matches community volunteers one-on-one with schoolchildren to read once a week at school. In the years of the COVID pandemic, children have read with their mentors in all sorts of ways: remotely, with masks, even outdoors! Parents called this safe, caring relationship built around language and books "a gift in a dark time."
Now in the second disaster in 4 years, our office has flooded. We have lost most of our furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials. This year's Race will help us rebuild from the worst flood in Montpelier history so we can keep kids reading—no matter what!

In Everybody Wins!, each child is matched with a safe, caring, adult volunteer who meets with them one-on-one each week over lunch at school to read stories and have conversations. Over 600 Everybody Wins! volunteers read with children each year in Vermont and NH.
