Story
Recent numbers indicate that nine out of ten children diagnosed with cancers are dying in Kenya and sub-Saharan Africa. That statistic is one out of ten in the western worldthe exact oppositeand action must be taken. On December 24th, 2021, a small group of runners led by British superstar Paula Radcliffe will be joined by Kenyan Olympic stars like the reigning Olympic Champion Emmanuel Korir, to run an 80-kilometre relay from the equator to the site where a groundbreaking ceremony will take place to build a 152 bed public children's cancer hospital. This will be the first ever children's cancer hospital in sub-Saharan Africa, private or public.
Paula Radcliffe will journey with her family to lead the runners from the equator, and her daughter Isla, who contracted cancer in 2019, will throw the first shovel into the ground alongside a Kenyan cancer patient age mate when the runners reach the site in Eldoret.
The Shoe4Africa foundation that is leading this initiative, opened East & Central Africas 1st public childrens hospital in 2015, in Eldoret, and will be again partnering with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Kenyan government to provide a public institution that will immediately start saving hundreds of children's lives in Kenya.
