Story
From Ukraine to South Sudan, sexual violence is weaponised to punish opposition, dehumanise and break communities. Rights for peace works to prevent and seek justice for mass atrocities in fragile states.
On 14 June 2022, victims of conflict-related sexual violence in South Sudan established a National Network of Survivors. With our parnters, we brought these survivors together, helping them draft their first Statement, which they presented to Ministers, parliamentarians, and the press at an event we organised at the Swiss Embassy in Juba on 15 June. Their Statement calls for the Commission for Truth, Reconciliation and Healing in South Sudan, that is required in the 2018 peace Agreement and in the early stages of being established, to ensure that sexual violence survivors can also testify and receive reparation.
Survivors need your support to pursue justice and reparation.
Because I am a human being, I have the right to reparation. The dignity that belongs to me needs to be restored.
Seeking reparation is their right. It restores dignity, changes narratives and breaks the silence around unspeakable crimes and untold suffering.
If we do not get reparation we will die of stress.
Rights for Peace works in Sudan and South Sudan on preventing hate based violations and supporting survivors to obtain justice and reparations. Read more about our work on preventing identity violence and seeking justice for survivors. Subscribe to our news.
Please support this 3-month campaign. The £4000 target amount will enable us to reach a new group of sexual violence survivors of genocide in Darfur who urgently need support to access justice and reparation in the ongoing case against "Ali Kushayb " at the International Criminal Court.
