Emlyn is aged 1 year from Norwich. He is a beautiful little boy with a wonderful smile. Shortly before his birth Emlyn suffered from a lack of oxygen and blood (HIE). He was born in poor condition and needed resuscitation for the first hour of his life. He had 72 hours of brain cooling treatment in the local NICU, to help prevent any further injury to his brain. Whilst in NICU Emlyn's MRI scan confirmed that his brain had been injured as a result of his traumatic arrival. This brain injury has led to a recent diagnosis of 'evolving cerebral palsy'.

We will forever be grateful for the treatment and care that Emlyn received from the NHS in his first few days of life. We now want to give Emlyn the best opportunities to enable him to live his life to the full.

In the early years the brain has greater plasticity, and is much more able to form new connections. It is therefore particularly important that Emlyn accesses therapies whilst his brain still has such capacity for change, to help him to gain better control over his body. Sadly, the NHS is not able to give Emlyn all the therapies he needs as regularly as he needs them. We are therefore raising funds for Just4Children to help Emlyn access private therapies such as physio and speech and language and to purchase specialist equipment not available on the NHS.
