Earthquake Appeal Update from IR Staff in Turkiye and Syria
"People are afraid to stay in their homes, because of continuing aftershocks. Those who have cars are staying in them with their families. Those who do not have cars, burn wood and other items to stay warm, or went to the mosque. A lot of mosques have been destroyed, Islamic Relief teams are struggling to find places to pray, that's how many mosques have been destroyed."
"In Syria, the number of deaths is lower but the capacity to help is less too. Many Islamic Relief staff members have lost members of their family as well with some staff still missing themselves. IR Syria teams are still working to free people from collapsed buildings themselves with people screaming underneath the rubble. The team has also run out of body bags and are having to prepare mass graves."
