Story
The Rescue Centre in Embu continues to operate for the street families and children because without the food provided by our team of volunteers, they face a desperately difficult future. Cafes, shops, bus stations and other amenities are closed now, all areas in town where the kids could traditionally earn a few Shillings to support themselves doing small jobs.
The numbers visiting the Centre is also rising daily, kids that had a bit of a steady footing in their lives have seen their businesses and income disappear overnight which means that they too need our support again. Well also continue to try and provide essential advice and facilities for the kids to practice good hygiene and promote social distancing, which is a really difficult concept, particularly for the kids on the streets who are used to sticking together in tight knit groups, always helping and looking out for each other.
To help protect our team of volunteers and staff, and all the kids and young families that use the Centre, weve changed our process for providing meals. We now provide take away lunch boxes prepared by Lilian and the volunteers that the kids can collect during set times in the day. This has pushed up some of the costs, not just because of the general rise in the cost of food in these times but because we're also trying to provide a more varied and balanced diet as this is now the only food the kids are guaranteed.
Stay Safe and thank you for your continued support x
