Story

Aiza and Subhaan are siblings aged 12 and 8, different in age but very similar in their big personalities.

Both Aiza and Subhaan suffer from a neurological disorder, global developmental delay, and Dravet syndrome, which causes very severe and complex epilepsy. Both are wheelchair-bound and require 24-hour care from carers and us, their parents, for all their needs.

Day-to-day life can be incredibly challenging and unpredictable, especially when Aiza or Subhaan take a turn for the worse and their seizures become uncontrollable. At times, when care from the agency is unavailable, both children are confined to their indoor environment, limiting their experiences.

Of the two siblings, Subhaan is the most vulnerable. Last year, he suffered respiratory failure and had to be placed on life support for 21 days. This was one of the most difficult times in our lives as we were forced to prepare for the possibility of saying our final goodbyes, something no parent should ever have to endure.

While on the ventilator, Subhaan suffered a severe injury to his hand and arm, causing arterial damage. As a result, his thumb had to be amputated, and further surgery was required on his hand. Subhaan will need additional surgeries as he grows.

Subhaan is our little miracle who fought against all odds, pulled through, and was given a second chance at life. This experience taught us to never give up and to make the most of every opportunity to create amazing memories.

Due to his respiratory failure, Subhaan now has weakened lungs and requires oxygen therapy for the rest of his life, which limits the places he can go and the activities he can participate in.

The lockdown period was particularly challenging, as the children’s vulnerabilities and complex needs meant they were stuck indoors most of the time. Unfortunately, we have no safe access to the back or front garden for them, making it impossible for them to enjoy outdoor experiences.

Both Aiza and Subhaan love sensory activities, and being able to provide them with safe access to an outdoor space would be a life-changing experience. They would benefit immensely from exploring and enjoying the outdoors and nature, something they have never had the chance to do in their own garden.

We are hoping to raise funds to create a sensory garden that would allow Aiza and Subhaan to safely experience the outdoors. This would give them the opportunity to explore nature and enjoy a better quality of life, creating precious memories for our entire family.

Additionally, Aiza and Subhaan would greatly benefit from a hydrotherapy pool in the garden. This would help relieve the muscle tightness and spasms caused by their seizures and Subhaan’s movement disorder.

We would be incredibly grateful for any support or donations to help make Aiza and Subhaan’s wish come true. The funds raised will be used to provide them with a sensory garden and hydrotherapy pool, improving their journey toward a more independent and happy life.

Thank you for your generosity and support.
