Story
St. Edmund, Egleton in Rutland is a Grade 1 listed Church noted for its Norman carvings and in particular its fine tympanum over the entrance doorway.
In 2022 Historic England placed St Edmund's on the At risk register mainly because of its problems with damp and the very urgent need to replace the Chancel Roof where the lead dated 1842 was well past its life span and the gradual penetration of water had affected the beams and internal plaster-work.
The Church has already raised over £15,000 for external masonry repairs completed in 2021 to reduce damp. A further £5,500 has been raised to make repairs to the Nave ceiling to protect bats prevent damage to the fabric and was completed in November 2022.
We now face a challenge of raising £60,000 for the replacement of the chancel roof which, as it is out of sight, will be in Terne-coated Stainless Steel.
For a village of 41 houses and a regular congregation this is quite a challenge and your help will be vital in achieving our target and preserving this valuable heritage.
