Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
It’s hard to believe that Eddie is now nine years old. He has come so far but still faces so many challenges. We wish things were different, but we need to continue fundraising for both Eddie’s medication and essential equipment. Please read below to learn more about our boy and our hopes and aims for him.
Eddie has a rare genetic condition that caused one or more brain bleeds in utero, leaving him with a severe brain injury. Consequently, Eddie has various neurological conditions, including cortical vision impairment (he is registered as functionally blind), Grade 5 Cerebral Palsy affecting all four limbs, intractable epilepsy, and a profound learning disability.
The biggest battle Eddie has faced, and still faces, is the ongoing seizures he experiences daily. We have been campaigning to get Eddie access to medical cannabis, as this is the only medication that has proven effective in managing his seizures. However, despite the rescheduling of medicinal cannabis, it is still NOT being provided by the NHS. As a result, Eddie has a private prescription for medicinal cannabis.
We are raising funds to help sustain the high costs of this medication privately. Recently, we transitioned him to a new brand that has come onto the market, which we hope will halve the monthly cost. It’s early days, but so far, it seems he is coping well with the change.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our beautiful, determined little boy. The support he receives is truly invaluable to us as a family.
Please note: 7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover core operating costs.
If we raise insufficient funds or surplus funds, these funds will be used, if appropriate, to support Eddie’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives. If, in those circumstances, we are unable to use all or part of the funds for Eddie’s benefit, then any remaining funds will be transferred to support the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
