Story

Illinois Tech was selected as one of the 15 North American universities to participate in the 2022-2026 EcoCAR EV Challenge competition cycle, which is sponsored by General Motors, the Department of Energy, and MathWorks. This is a highly structured, experiential-learning opportunity involving students from across several engineering disciplines that are tasked with designing the modifications to a Cadillac LYRIQ SUV EV in order to have advanced autonomous driving capabilities and four-wheel electric drive. Students compete annually based on clearly-defined annual deliverables and then take their completed vehicles to compete against the other teams at the end of the four-year cycle. Students who participate in this program are ideally prepared for employment in the automotive and other industries because they have lived it through the EcoCAR program. Funds will provide for team travel to EcoCAR events, meetings, and competitions as well as all them to acquire needed tools and equipment.
