Story
As an organization with more than a century of experience in caring for our community, the Valley of the Sun YMCA responds quickly to these challenges; creatively expanding our programs to meet our community when, where and how we are needed most.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we can continue to ensure the health, safety and well-being of every YMCA child and family. We are working to pave the way for a bright future to all of our community no matter their age, race, gender or socioeconomic status.
OUR MISSION
The Valley of the Sun YMCAs mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
OUR CAUSE
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
ADVANCING CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
Y programs provide experiences rich in social and emotional learning because youth can achieve their potential when they are nurtured by supportive adults.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide more single-parent families with affordable and accessible memberships and programs.
STRENGTHENING FAMILIES
Y programs support parents in creating stronger families in order to lower child poverty, reduce social-isolation and increase positive health outcomes.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide high-quality, low cost preschool and early learning to help low-income families get enrolled and an increase in kindergarten readiness.
DEVELOPING COMMUNITY LEADERS
Y programs provide safe spaces to allow teens and young adults to build a sense of belonging and develop their self-identity.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide youth sports access to at-risk kids and kids from low-income families.
DROWNING PREVENTION
Y programs provide critical safety around water knowledge and teach swimming skills for youth and adults.
In 2024, the Y will:
• Provide 150 free Safety Around Water lessons and dry-land safety lessons at community schools to support the Mesa West community.
