To raise money for the Garden we are doing a sponsored walk covering >35 miles from Beachy Head to Brighton on June 29th 2024.
Community Garden
Our learners love the outdoors, from sensory regulation to employability opportunities there are multiple benefits to being outdoors in a safe and stimulating environment. Working with our Community and improving accessibility go hand in hand with DVLSC and Community Gardens so the this project feels like a perfect fit.
We will transform an under-used green space in Patcham Peace Gardens providing a Community Garden with the key aims of:
1. Enhancing curriculum and employability skills for Downs View Life Skills Leaners.
2. Create a valuable inclusive space for connection with nature and community.
3. Improve access and attraction of an under-utilised green space.
Phase 1 complete: Centenary Orchard
The Garden got underway in Feb 2024 with the planting of an orchard to celebrate the 100th birthday of Patcham Memorial Hall. Brighton Permaculture Trust provided the know how and Sussex Surplus kept us fed while members of the college, Memorial Hall, volunteers and Village Preschool all got stuck in with planting the trees.
Phase 2: Next Steps
We are getting ready to kick of phase 2. We have been working hard to secure funding and have enough to proceed with building the core infrastructure for the garden. Specifically accessible paths, a shelter, raised beds, compost and water facilities. Please help us make the garden grow!
