Story

Durham Cathedral has hosted a collection point for the County Durham Foodbank for over a decade.

Supporting the Foodbank is an important part of our mission of love and service to the region, inspired by the instruction of Jesus Christ to his followers, to feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty.

1 in 5 people in the UK live below the poverty live. Since 2011, the Cathedral has collected more than 10 tonnes of food and other goods for the Foodbank, and raised nearly £10,000.

Cash donations to the Foodbank make a vital contribution to the cost of purchasing additional supplies to make up for specific shortages (e.g. nappies and hygiene products), as well as keeping the Foodbank running.

County Durham Foodbank was seeded by the Trussell Trust.

Durham Cathedral is unique. Prayer, worship and the welcome of visitors (around half a million each year) are the heart of what we do. We also care for a UNESCO World Heritage Site, improve the biodiversity of Durham's natural spaces, and bring people together to make a difference in the world.
