Durham Nightline

Durham Nightline is a confidential, anonymous listening service run by Durham students, for Durham students. We're open 9pm-7am during term time. Our volunteers offer a non-judgemental listening ear to any Durham student who needs it.

Story

Durham Nightline has been offering a confidential listening service to Durham University students for over 50 years after being set up in 1973 by three students who volunteered for Samaritans.

We offer non-advisory listening support through our phone line and instant messaging service which operate from 9pm-7am during term time. Our service is run by trained student volunteers who are available to listen to any issues that students may want to talk about, big or small.

In 2023-24, we answered over 300 calls and instant messages and our volunteers spent over 2000 hours on shift, ready to answer calls from Durham students in need.

We are here for every single one of the 21,588 Durham university students. Donating £14.68 will help us cover the cost of supporting 25 of those students for one year.

Your donations will help us to continue running our service, and invest in new initiatives that allow us to grow our service, better support our volunteers, and raise awareness of Nightline among the student community.
