Every penny raised for Disability Snowsport UK helps to fund the provision of adaptive snowsports throughout the UK, making adventure and snowsports accessible to all.
I feel empowered and have got my spark back.
Marie’s Story:
“Prior to my spinal injury I was very active with different sports and was completely devastated to discover the barriers trying to get back into it. I completely lost my spark!
Never having skied before I had no previous expectations so decided to give it a go. As expected, lesson 1, I was a little nervous, not knowing John, not knowing the facility, monoski... how does that look?... but from the moment John met us he put my mind at ease. I was apprehensive but very excited and he very quickly gained my confidence and trust. There is a lovely balance of encouragement and a progressive plan but when the skis came off and things just not working then the plans change and I always leave the slope feeling a great sense of self-achievement.
My wonderful husband has been supported by DSUK too, having been shown how to support me on the slopes so much so he started lessons again after 38 years off the slopes! The Manchester team treat us like a whole package which is so refreshing! It's been difficult to have a sport we can do together since the injury.

I feel empowered and have got my spark back. When you tell people Monoski there is no longer “head tilting” pity looks, only puzzled you can ski looks, which opens up conversations that gives me a great sense of pride. There is a complete admiration for those who ski and fascination for those who don't”
