Dr Amy Johnston was a celebrated friend, colleague, and mentor in biomedical and nursing disciplines.

Amy loved supporting nurses. She was a passionate advocate for nursing and championed the profile of nurses in research by empowering and enabling them to have impact and be influential in their respective fields.

Amy’s philosophy was “anyone can do research” and her mentoring, facilitation and international collaborations clearly demonstrated this. Amy strove to make research less intimidating for all healthcare professionals through a flexible, adaptive approach within their complex clinical environments. She was inclusive, collaborative and gave nurse clinicians the permission and autonomy to trail blaze. She encouraged creative thinking that challenged the status quo. She helped students to find their inner strength and built confidence that helped dismantle self-doubt. Following an interaction with Amy, you left feeling you could achieve anything.

Amy’s family, friends, and colleagues are establishing the Dr Amy Johnston Fund to continue Amy’s powerful legacy as a mentor.
