Story
This new sewing hub will serve some of the one million people living in slums in Bangalore, India. Of these slum dwellers, about 1/3 fall below the poverty line, with a monthly income of less than Rs 2500 (£45). We have a deep, sympathetic concern for the suffering of others. This calls us to action and fuels our acts of kindness and mercy. We believe that passing on our knowledge is a gift to be shared, teaching others with a spirit of generosity in order to give hope for the future. Stella is one of the team in Bangalore, she believes “sewing opens future opportunities to women so they can live independently, and through this, we can share God’s love.” Participating alongside Stella is Asha, her desire is to equip and elevate women from the slums, encouraging and empowering them to build their own small enterprise businesses. Karunya wants to see women occupied in tailoring work, using this income, to provide for their families and enable their children to attend school.
We strive to build communities that cross social, economic and political boundaries. We encourage participation and raise the voices of the marginalised and vulnerable. We support people out of isolation, and provide opportunities for people to become integrated into local communities, and wider networks of hubs across the world.
