Story
According to the World Food Programme 50% of children under 5 in Guatemala suffer malnutrition which has a catastrophic impact on their health both cognitively and physically, stunting growth and impeding development. Hungry and malnourished children often fail to engage with lessons, fall asleep, suffer from memory loss and experience behavioural issues. That's why our nutrition programme is integral to our overall success as a school.
At the School of Hope we give our students a nutritious meal and a healthy snack each and every day. We've served well over one million meals in the sixteen years we've been operating The School of Hope. By March of 2019 after only 2 months of our Nutrition programme 76% of all students in The School of Hope were in their healthy BMI range. Our on site nurse and school psychologist conduct regular health checks on students to keep track of their physical and mental health and well-being.
In 2020, our nutrition budget is underfunded by £2,224. And so between 19 February and 19 March we are calling out to all of our supporters to donate the cost of one of their dinners, whether a quick sandwich or a lavish meal to ensure that all of our students can enjoy yummy, nutritious meals this year.
