Story
Age UK Camden has been at the forefront of the local community sector response to the pandemic and has worked closely with local partners to provide effective and comprehensive support for some of the boroughs most vulnerable residents. To meet the need we provided emergency food supplies, provided hospital discharge support services, and developed a tele-friend service. This was in addition to continuing to provide our other services adapted to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
We have inevitably experienced a surge in demand for our services at the same time as facing a prolonged drop in income due to the coronavirus pandemic. We are more passionate and committed than ever in supporting the many older people in our community who need our support, but we need your help!
A £10 donation, which is the cost of two morning coffees and a croissant, means that we can provide a weekly befriending call to an older member of the community, ensuring they are safe and comfortable during the latest national lockdown. For £25 we can train a new volunteer befriender a £100 enables three older people to access digital inclusion support, keeping them connected when spending so much time at home alone.
With so many of us now working from home, perhaps we are no longer purchasing a take-away daily coffee or snack on our way to work, or at lunchtime. We are asking those that can, to donate the money that they would have spent over one day, two days, or a week, so that we can continue to support our wonderful older community.
