Story
DinoDay is Contact's annual fundraising event in June to help fund our vital support services for families with disabled children across the UK.
This year, hundreds of incredible families across the nation will tackle the Stomp & Roar challenge by completing 19 activities. Whether it's walking 19 miles, taking 19 trips to the park, or trying 19 new foods, this challenge is for all abilities.
Why dinosaurs and why the number 19?!
The inspiration behind DinoDay is a boy called Cameron Mathieson who had Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and sadly passed away after spending over two years in hospital.
At that time, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) was taken away from children who spent over 12 weeks in hospital. We supported the Mathieson family’s legal challenge to this unfair rule. With our support, the family won their case at the Supreme Court and since then, no other family with a child who spends long periods in hospital has been denied this essential financial support.
Cameron’s birthday is on 19 June. He loved dinosaurs – or as he called them, Dowsers – and his favourite Dowser was a green triceratops called Troy!
The funds raised through DinoDay are crucial. They not only honour Cameron's legacy, but also enable us to keep fighting against the discrimination that families with disabled children face.
So, let's come together, make some noise, and stomp out discrimination with every roar and step!!
