Story
After being involved in a horrific motorcycle accident which left me with both life changing injuries and mental scars, taking part in the Dig Deep 50km race will mark nearly two years since my accident and will be the longest I have run since it happened.
My recovery journey has been a rollercoaster ride, far more mentally challenging than I ever anticipated. It taught me patience, resilience, and the stark reality that healing a complex ankle break isn't just about determination—it's about navigating a maze of medical processes and learning how to wait (definitely not a top skill of mine).
Three months post-surgery marked a turning point, or so I thought. Despite feeling reasonably mobile, a hospital scan shattered my optimism. The break was far worse than I imagined, with missing bone and metalwork holding parts together. My dreams of swiftly returning to running were dashed, replaced by the sobering reality of sticking to walking for the immediate and possibly indefinite future.
Nearly two years later, I stand on the cusp of a new challenge—a 50km run, a personal best with my "new ankle."
As I lace up my shoes for this monumental endeavour, I carry the lessons of patience, perseverance, and the yet-to-be-shattered belief that I can surmount every obstacle I put my mind to. This run is not just about setting a new record; it's about reclaiming my strength and inspiring others to persevere in the face of adversity.
Join me in celebrating the power of resilience and hope. Together, let's turn obstacles into opportunities and inspire others to embrace their own journey of recovery.
I am delighted to be raising money for Hope English School and their work with those who have also demonstrated huge resilience, bravery and strength. Every penny raised will go to support their vital work with refugees and those seeking asylum in South Yorkshire.
