Story

On the evening of March 25th friends, staff and volunteers of Citizens Advice Gateshead will be living one of our core values by blazing the trail - they will literally be *walking over hot coals* to raise money for our Dig Deep 2020 fundraising campaign.

In 2019 a team of 'firewalkers' helped us to raise valuable funds towards our last annual Dig Deep campaign to help us to provide specialist social welfare advice, information and support for patients of cancer and their families. With your help we were able to raise a total of over £20,000 which made a huge difference, increasing our capacity to really help families in a meaningful way, to help them improve their lives and be more able to deal with the tough challenges they were facing.

In 2020 we are aiming to raise £50,000 and the Gateshead Firewalk event is our first fundraising event of the campaign. We'd love you to get behind our firewalkers by sponsoring them for a small amount - every pound counts towards our total.

Our Story ...

At Citizens Advice Gateshead we have committed to doing everything in our power to stand up for equality and strive for a fair society for all, with lives well lived.

When people are living in persistent poverty, a focus on helping to alleviate the symptoms just isn't enough. We need to be able to dig deeper, to understand and eradicate the individual causes of poverty for each family and help them to find a new way forward. With an almost daily increase in demand for our charitable services, although we have the know-how to help we are restricted by the limited funding we have. However with your support we can make an even bigger difference.

Dig Deep 2020 is about raising the money we need to help Gateshead families to not just survive, but to turn their lives around. We aim to help hundreds of people just like you who simply need a break.

1 in 5 children in Gateshead are living in poverty, life expectancy for people living in poorer wards is as much as 15 years less than average, and we're facing an escalating demand for food banks, charity and mental health services. It really is time to act. We need your help to help families facing cancer, dementia, fuel poverty, homelessness, debt, hunger, relationship breakdown, mental health problems. Being able to access the right advice and information and support, at the right time, can make a massive difference. Please offer your support, because by working together WE can really make a difference.

You can fundraise in lots of ways - participate in one of our events, set up your own event, get involved in fundraising in your workplace or school. Please dig deep, to help us have the resources we need to dig deep for the families we support, to truly get their lives back on track.

Get in touch if you'd like to get involved in fundraising for our charity. Every single pound counts. We're proud that 84p of every pound we raise goes directly to the clients we support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
