Story

In the event that the appeal is oversubscribed, any excess will be used exclusively to enhance the playground - in memory of Dennis.

The Dennis Myers Memorial Bench – a long and stalwart friend of Alne.

Dennis Myers (1949-2021) came to Alne in 1974 and, having four sons, was soon involved with the school and the children. He helped run the Friday Youth Club in the Village Hall, and, later, on the playing field, and he was the DJ of every disco, complete with air guitar competitions, which the children loved.

Dennis was a governor at Alne Primary school for over twenty years and, at the time of his death, he was vice-chairman. He helped to appoint two head teachers, Paul Platt and Michelle Dawson, as well as help take the school into an academy from Alne Primary to Outwood Alne. He was very involved with the staff and was frequently in school to talk to them about how they were coping with Ofsted and the change to Outwood.

Having been the initial APLA Secretary in the first year of 1983, Dennis became more intimately involved with APLA as the field development started in 2000. He served as APLA Chairman from 2004 until his death in 2021 and was a mainstay of the Street Fayre operations. He was an APLA Committee member for a total of 24 years and a Street Fayre Committee member for 20 years.

Dennis was a tennis player in his earlier years and continued his interest with being non-playing captain of Alne B for many years. He always attended both home and away matches and it is intended that his memorial bench will be placed adjacent to the tennis courts where he spent so many happy hours.
